Introduced by Goodhart-Rendel, the catalogue addressed the problems of deteriorating roads in the UK in cities and towns as well as addressing the issues relating to the design of motorways.

Pulhams were the major firm in the UK for the creation of rock gardens from the 19th century onwards and amongst their works was the famous Swiss Gardens at Old Warden.

Black decorated cloth. 300 x 300mm) Loosely inserted letter to Michael Manser from Charles Kenniker of Fuji film introducing him to Nic Gaunt as a potential architectural photographer with whom Fuji had worked. The CD has interviews with artists and architects involved with the reconstruction of the Rotunda in Birmingham as part of the much larger Bull Ring Scheme. Upper board and top of spine sunned, else a beautiful copy of this hard to find publication.

320pp Ownership name of George Whipp on upper wrapper. In 1938 Chamberlain, as the new Prime Minister, assigned a Royal Commission chaired by Sir Anderson Barlow into the urban concentration of population and industry. The resulting report raised the problem of large towns as a public issue for the first time and concluded that 'planned decentralisation' was favourable. However, owing to the outbreak of war in 1939 the Barlow Report, published in 1940. Within the document it reported on the potential of New Towns and Garden Cities as sites for decentralisation and was indeed a turning point in considering post war New Town developments as part of a National Plan for post war reconstruction.

Introduction refers to Fröbel's approach to play and his book on Kindergarten play. The book is divided into chapters dealing with graduated lessons and designs. Boards a bit soiled else good copy.

Very good copy. Signature of design historian Stuart Evans on half title. Very useful on the various designs that Sanderson is so well known for. Cover design shows The Phoenix Bird designs from 1920.
