10 greetings card c1949 issued as souvenirs
Burford Church is one of the most visited in the Oxfordshire area. This small group of souvenir cards c1949 are from original rubbings by Benjiman Consitt Boulter and similarly the drawings are by him. He was a British schoolmaster and illustrator (1876-1960) who as well as these cards illustrated the guide book to the church issued to visitors at the time.

Internally there is some spotting, confined to endpapers and the first 20pp. Important early survey of stained glass, extending from the seventh century to the Gothic revival. Later chapters deal with Heraldry, Swiss glass (as a point of comparison), decay and advice for the collector. With useful appendices and bibliographies of early material. Many of the lovely full page plates are in colour.

Forde Abbey was bought by Edmund Prideaux, MP for Lyme Regis and Oliver Cromwell's Attorney General. Before his death in 1659 Prideaux converted the buildings from a monastic residence to a private home. It has 18th century gardens and a landscape park. This early guidebook describes the early history of the estate from the establishment of it as a monastic foundation to its conversion into a country house. Hard to find.
