Front end paper has ownership bookplate of Josceline Grove and notes on his purchase of this copy. Slightly rubbed at head and base of spine. A few spattered spots on upper board else internally very good. Details 254 numbers following a short [3]pp note on the Sculpture Gallery at Woburn built originally as a conservatory by Henry Holland.

Considered one of the great ceramic collections of the world, the Graisher collection was assembled by Dr J.W.L Glaisher and catalogued by Bernard Rackham, Keeper of Ceramics at the V&A and this printed catalogue remains a firm favourite amongst ceramics collectors and curators alike, worldwide.

Chairman of the Society was artist, James D Linton. List of members of the Society given at the end of the publication. There are 575 items listed and organized by artist. The Society ran between 1910-1913. It ran four exhibitions in total. These were held at the Royal Institute Galleries. The exhibitions were selling shows and the prices of each item is given in the catalogue. One copy listed on World Cat at the V&A.

  • He was the son of Noel Hill, 1st Baron Berwick of Attingham and Anna Vernon. He held the office of Envoy to Naples between 1824 and 1830. He leased the Palazzo Belvedere, which had been furnished by Caroline Murat, the former Queen of Naples, in the latest French fashion. The furniture and Parisian ceramics and ormolu that Lord Berwick acquired with the Palazzo Belvedere now form a significant part of the furnishing and character of Attingham, along with the pictures which he had collected throughout his time in Italy. On 19 March 1824 his name was legally changed to William Noel-Hill by Royal Licence. He died unmarried and without legitimate issue.

    129pp. 8vo. Quarter calf with gilt ruled lines and titling on spine. Marbled end-papers and book block edge. Slight fading to upper cover and a small stain (c.1cm) here. All corners rubbed, the bottom left verso corner more than the others. Internally very good indeed. An impressive list of 2937 lots sold over 13 days. Annotated in a very neat hand with sale prices and names of buyers. William Noel Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773 - 1842) was a British peer, politician and diplomatist.

Loosely inserted A.L.S from the author to Ms Green, from the author who lived at 16 Wentworth Road, York which accompanied the pamphlet sent, December 7 1909, to Mr Green alerting him to a talk on Old Clockmakers and requesting if he had photographs taken close up from the scaffolding on York Minster of the Striking Figures on the clock. [Green was Clerk of Works at York Minster at the time.]
