Rebacked with original spine label pasted on. Internal hinges reinforced with linen tape to match rust coloured end papers. Emily Faithfull was an early pioneer for women's employment. She established the Victoria Press in 1860 and this ran until 1864 as a business to provide opportunities for women. he Society for Promoting the Employment of Women (SPEW) was one of the earliest British women's organisations and it was Emily Faithfull's awareness of this which lead to her establishing the Victoria Press. Description of the book pasted in from R G Watkins catalogue 8 of 1989. Louisa Portman was the neice of George Digby Winfield Digby to whom the book is dedicated. Series of dedication in various manuscript hands on prelims and half title show it passed between family members and friends. Scarce.
