He spent many years living and painting in West Sussex, where the English countryside acted as inspiration for much of his work. This comprehensive monograph follows Hitchens artistic development from the 1920s to 1973, when Hitchens was celebrating his eightieth year, with the added benefit of information given by the artist himself to the authors.
