  • Durham Cathedral by (ROWNTREE KENNETH)
    Durham Cathedral

Coloured screen print. Signed and dated "76" and number 39/75. 483x 488. Printed by the artist and Audrey Dalby as the Design School, Department of Fine Art, University of Newcastle upon Tyne and published by the artist in an edition of 75. Framed. Fabulous image. The print was made after specially prepared photographs of the similarly entitled construction made in 1974 ('West Front, Durham' 1974, Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne). Copy in the Tate collection [P02836] and the Tate catalogue provides a long explanation of the print making process which Rowntree said was "quite unlike" other prints he had made exploring the relationship between lettering and paintwork.
