Book to accompany a major retrospective exhibition held at the V&A in 1981 and 1982. Edited by John Houston who also contributes in the book an essay on her career and was the exhibition organiser. Very good in dust wrapper. Hard to find. Taped to paste down is the admission ticket to the V & A and presumably the show.

152 + [48]pp, b/w photographs throughout. Folio. Original red cloth with black lettering. Slightly frayed at the head and foot of spine. Binding a little shaky with short split along outer hinge. Trade catalogue from the 1920s for the Tynecastle Company, who specialised in wall coverings, mouldings, friezes and ornaments. Illustrated throughout with samples of individual products and examples of them in situ. The company was set up in 1885 by John and James Templeton to meet the demand for their leather-like canvas product, and ran in tandem with the original Scott Morton & Co. until they were incorporated in 1920. VII + 64pp illustrated with 35 line ills and one photograph of the Dome. Also three fold-out plates of tables in pocket to rear Long 4to. Good with slightly worn dust wrapper. The Dome of Discovery housed a temporary exhibition building designed by architect Ralph Tubbs for the Festival of Britain at the South Bank. The consulting engineers were Freeman Fox & Partners and this book is a technical analysis of the construction.

23pp. Pamphlet containing a D.I.A Address by Frank Pick. Paper wrappers with paste down label. Very good ephemeral item. First pamphlet to be published by the DIA Edinburgh Branch. Pick was working for London Transport at the time towards unifying its brand. The key principles to make good design are explored in this pamphlet. Scarce.

Two advertising items promoting Cigars which are chromolithographic images . Sizes are 260x155mm and 120x120mm. Set against the background of the Worlds Fair Buildings these two items illustrate a romanticised scene depicting the discovery of the New World by Columbus. George Schlegel Lithographing Co. (1849-1957)[1] was a New York printing company best known for its label designs for cigars and cigar boxes, and was owned and operated during its lifetime by four generations of the family. She was a ceramic artist, active 1926- 1951 and exhibited in Stoke on Trent.

Decorated end papers, these a little age toned. The exhibition included examples of the latest fire fighting equipment and there was also a substantial loan of items on the history of fire including paintings, models, historical equipment etc. Sachs is best known for his writing on Theatre Architecture. Sach wrote the introduction to this huge catalogue.
