Wonderful collection of early 20th C furniture, both moderninst and traditional, by designers including Robert Lorimer, Edwin Lutyens, Gordon Russell etc. Illustrations show individual items and interior scenes.

Bright copy with protective plastic archival wrapper. Upper right corner slightly bumped else a vg. of this useful review of his career indicating much about his attitude. Includes a list of executed projects. Very good illustrations of major commissions. Newton was a pupil of Norman Shaw and worked initially in his style but gradually developed his own signature in design with a more classical tradition at its heart. Armourial bookplate of architect John Homery Folkes on front pastdown. Very hard to find with the dust wrapper.

    487 illustrations in b/w. Quarter moroco, marbled boards and end papers. Gilt decorated spine with raised bands. Good copy. Signed on the half title by Eliza Gutch. Also has her bookplate on front paste down. Founding member of the Folklore Society but with particular York associations, she was the last private owner of Holgate Windmill, and her children sold the Mill on her death to the City of York Council for preservation. It operates today as an historic site. She died at Holgate Lodge on 17 March 1931. Also has the bookplate dated 1964 of Catherine and David Green. Attractive association copy.

Signed dedication copy to R J Green Esq from T P Cooper, inscribed on the upper wrapper. Loosely inserted A.L.S from the author to Ms Green, from the author who lived at 16 Wentworth Road, York which accompanied the pamphlet sent, December 7 1909, to Mr Green alerting him to a talk on Old Clockmakers and requesting if he had photographs taken close up from the scaffolding on York Minster of the Striking Figures on the clock. [Green was Clerk of Works at York Minster at the time.]
