xxiii + 852pp illustrated throughout with 37 full page plates some in colour + 329 + (11) figures in the text. 4to. Decorated cloth. A little rubbed at edges of spine and corners (as usual) else very bright copy. On the history, materials, manufacture and use of ornamental flooring, tiles, ceramic mosaic and decorative tiles and faience with a series of recipes for for leadless glazes and art tile enamels. Important book in part written to provide information on lead free materials which Furnival promoted to eliminate lead-poisoning from the industry.

Hard to find monograph on Sir George Gilbert Scott (1811-1878), the Gothic Revival specialist who was the dominant figure in English architecture in the middle years of the nineteenth century. An appendix lists 879 of his architectural commissions. From the library of David Gerald Francis Hinge whose bookplate is on the front paste down.

Internally, some discolouration on f.e.p else very clean and bright. Bookplate of Josceline Grove along with descriptions of the books from previous owners pasted down on front end papers. Name of C. L. Chute (Sir Charles Lennard Chute MC 1879 - 1956) inscribed in pen on front paste down.
