Blind stamped cloth. 3rd edition. 1856-1857 Originally produced [ in parts ] by Langley Banks, a specialist in staircase carpentry; Banks' own designs account for the first 27 of these plates and are signed; the remainder of the plates are by five other specialists (Mr Clarke, Mr Foster, Mr Galpin, Mr Weston). Vol1 Frontis showing Crystal Palace Staircase, title page,[4] 12pp + 24 plates with facing explanatory texts. Vo. 2 plates 25-53 with facing texts + [4]pp note at end on Mr Weston's handrailing system + 3 fold out plates of newel posts and hand railing examples, these last plates badly foxed. Hard to find set.

3rd edition greatly enlarged to which is added a short treatise on Wrought Iron Bridges… xiv + 303 pp illustrated with six plates all fold outs including frontis of Saltaire Mills near Bradford and text illustrations and tables. 8vo. Green cloth, gilt titles on spine. Very good although some short splits along outer hinges. Copy of W J Hindle with signature of ownership on half title. He was an architect in Barnsley and the book has his practice stamp on the front paste down.

Craig Ellwood was one of the architects who during the 50s took part (alongside Charles Eames, Pierre Koenig and Rafael Soriano, among others) in the celebrated Case Study Houses programme organized by the "Arts and Architecture" magazine with the aim of promoting modern architecture and experimentation with new industrial materials in domestic architecture. This book is a useful account of some of his projects and is beautifully illustrated.

Stam was widely known in the Bauhaus circle and knew Ernest May. He remained active in the post war period at the Academy for Fine and Applied Art at Dresden and Berlin.

Bottom front corner of wrapper c 2cm ripped away else a very good copy of this scarce item. RIBA Catalogue this focused exhibition designed by James Gardner. Hard to find. Introduced by Goodhart-Rendel, the catalogue addressed the problems of deteriorating roads in the UK in cities and towns as well as addressing the issues relating to the design of motorways.

72pp illustrated with stunning b/w and colour photographs and line ills. Large square 4to. 360x360mm. Good with silvered dust wrapper. Signed dedication copy to Michael Manser from Stoilov. With bookplate on front end paper of Michael and Jose Manser. Dust wrapper dusty else good copy. Text in English. Stoilov famously designed the brutalist Buzludzha Memorial House which is now abandoned, perched on a Balkan mountain, following the end of the political regime that built it. This and other memorials alongside commercial and domestic buildings are featured in this book.
