Illustrated with b/w plates and period ads and includes large fold out plan in colour at the end of the Crystal Palace Park and layout of the buildings. The Festival of Empire aimed to promote the British Empire to the British public. It was the largest event held at Crystal Palace since its establishment in 1853 on the site in Sydenham. From page 122 the booklet describes the Fashion Fair held alongside the main event and is illustrated with contemporary fashion which is described alongside lists of suppliers. Useful publication for the whole event which summarises all the contributions national and international.

95pp b/w + colour illustrations. Small 4to. Perfect binding, illustrated wrappers. Very small chip to the head of the spine otherwise an almost fine copy. Photographic study with an interesting point of reference. The book was conceived after the publishers were researching imagery for a book on world religions. The adornments of different ceremonial dress reminded them of portraits of contemporary punks. The book contains images of punks juxtaposed with images of people wearing traditional dress. Accompanying text written by Val Hennessey. Excellent piece of fashion research material. Uncommon.

On contrasting paper, is a section on makers.

New York Sloan Liniment 1939

Cardboard jigsaw, 300 x 250mm, made up and stuck together with removable tape. Mounted. Lovely colour image of the main site and its pavilions, free gift which was as a souvenir of the World's Fair by the firm. Sloan's Liniment was originally sold by Dr. Earl S. Sloan as a treatment to relieve pain associated with rheumatism and arthritis; originally used on horses and was eventually marketed for human use.

In evaluating Day's parallel career as an industrial designer and a major writer and critic, the book shows his relationship to other influential design figures of the time and explores his relationships with colleagues including William Morris, Walter Crane, W.A.S. Benson etc.

London The Crafts Council 1981

Book to accompany a major retrospective exhibition held at the V&A in 1981 and 1982. Edited by John Houston who also contributes in the book an essay on her career and was the exhibition organiser. Very good in dust wrapper. Hard to find. Taped to paste down is the admission ticket to the V & A and presumably the show.

The first full-length publication on the work of internationally renowned Dame Magdalene Odundo ( b.1950) with a complete illustrated catalogue of her work up until 2004. Hard to find.

Study of the late eighteenth-century metalworker, his ormolu or 'ground gold' gilded ornaments and his manufactory near Birmingham during the years 1768-1782. Explores the processes of design and manufacture alongside the development of the business.

Loosely inserted 4pp reprinted article about the firm initially issued by World's Work "A Famous house in Fetter Lane". + loosely inserted order form and period ad for knife cleaning machine. Richard Melhuish and Co were Ironmongers, Electrical and Sanitary Engineers. The firm was founded in 1828.

Original, unused full roll of Osborne and Little, white, silver and gold foil Wallpaper. Design No. 103. By Anthony Little. Measures 1044cm x 56cm. Slight creases from handling over the years, but near fine. An early example of co-founder and creative director Anthony Little's designs. Little had been responsible for the iconic black and gold Biba logo of the 60s and dreamed up most of the company's designs.
