The Death and Life of Great American Cities [1961]

    London, Jonathan Cape 1962

458pp,. Contrasting cloth binding, purple spine with gilt lettering. Good copy in slightly worn dust wrapper. First edition published in the United Kingdom. Pencil lines adjacent to the text to highlight particular passages. Hard to find in this edition. Jacket design by Jan Pienkowski. The book is an attack on "orthodox" modern city planning and city architectural design. It investigates into how cities actually work, rather than how they "should" work according to urban designers and planners. The book includes recommendations on how to improve city living for all.
