    First edition. 380pp illustrated with 50 figures including 2 fold outs in colour, b/w line illustrations and maps. Cloth with red lettered titles on spine and upper board. A very good copy. One fold out has been badly folded into the book. Key book distilling Saarinen's ideas on the design written towards the end of his eventful career which began in Helsinki and ended in Michigan, Ohio. He combined planning, architecture and industrial design in his output.

This garden suburb, near Pitshanger in Ealing, was the first garden suburb in London to be built in cooperative principles, predating the larger and better-known Hampstead Garden Suburb by some years. It was mostly built between 1901 and 1915. Reprint of original documentaion.

The folder itself is blue with drawing design by Charles Paine. Faint stamp of previous owner William E Spangle on upper wrapper. William E. Spangle graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a degree in city planning in 1938.…

He worked as a city and regional planner in the San Francisco Bay Area as the principal of William Spangle and Associates. Charles Paine (1895-1967) Charles Paine was a versatile and prolific designer who worked on poster design for the G.P.O., Empire Marketing Board and many others. In 1939 he was taken on at Welwyn to direct their advertising campaign. He produced this collection of brochures for Welwyn along side a series of seasonal posters, maps and leaflets to promote Welwyn as a place to live and work. Scarce. Two duplicate leaflets in the collection.
