It was produced as a Golden Anniversary souvenir of the firm. A. B. Dick Company was a major American manufacturer of copy machines and office supplies in the late 19th century and 20th centuries.

He spent many years living and painting in West Sussex, where the English countryside acted as inspiration for much of his work. This comprehensive monograph follows Hitchens artistic development from the 1920s to 1973, when Hitchens was celebrating his eightieth year, with the added benefit of information given by the artist himself to the authors. Unnumbered and unsigned copy from the limited run produced and sold with slipcase and additional portfolio of woodcuts (this missing from this copy). Upper board has sprung slightly and has a faint mark on the bottom right corner, else a very good copy and very bright internally. This is the first book on Nash's work as an illustrator.
