J C Loudon's immense and invaluable work was first published in 1833 with the aim of helping to 'improve the dwellings of the great mass of society'. A fine collection of lithographic plates, with accompanying text, title pages printed in colours. Covers the churches at Adel, Bolton Percy, Methley, Thirsk, Birkin, Skelton, Bubwith, Patrington, Skirlaugh, Rotherham, Stainburn, Nun Monkton and the Chapels at Ripon. The churches in the first volume are separately paginated indicating the work was issued as a part work. Useful descriptions of volumes some made before the churches were subsequently restored or altered.
