Iconic book which covers work by: Sculptors: Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth; Painters: John Armstrong, John Bigge, Edward Burra, Tristram Hillier, Paul Nash, Ben Nicholson, Edward Wadsworth; Architects: Wells Coates, Colin Lucas. Unit One was a British grouping of Modernist artists founded by Paul Nash. Despite its brief period of activity, the group is regarded as influential in establishing the pre-eminence of London as a centre of modernist and abstract art and architecture in the mid-1930s.

220x150mm b/w photographs. Three photographs showing the interior layout and exterior of a wartime adaptation of a van for entertainment. Microphone and piano evident in one photographs. Second-hand vans, painted camouflage green, were first used in East London and by the end of 1940 there were 500 vans bringing refreshments to troops, rescue workers and victims of bombing raids.

Set against the background of the Worlds Fair Buildings these two items illustrate a romanticised scene depicting the discovery of the New World by Columbus. George Schlegel Lithographing Co. (1849-1957)[1] was a New York printing company best known for its label designs for cigars and cigar boxes, and was owned and operated during its lifetime by four generations of the family. Very good

Undated and hand decorated with dried flowers and ferns and with hand written captions in italics and painted borders. Dark green leather with ruled edges. 230x280mm. Split on spine and edges scuffed but lovely item. 40 pages of sepia photographs of various sizes ranging from 60x110mm to 150x240mm. Photographers stamps in some of the images internally. Isle of Man photographer's impression of the firm Patterson and James on some of the early images. Large image of Douglas Harbour and Laxey Wheel in this section. Later sections include a combination of tourist purchased photographs and vernacular ones by the maker.

Untitled sample book of colour lithographs which could be selected for use graphic design projects, probably for chocolate boxes. The first two images show chocolate box lids. Paper wrappers. Perfect Bound, name of firm on upper wrapper. C310x250mm. Green cloth spine. This is rather worn. There are c63 sentimental chocolate box type images, probably inter war. The firm of Sutton Sharpe and Co specialized in designing, printing, and publishing. In 1901 they were situated at 145 Quen Victoria Road London. The location of the firm in the inter war period is not known.

Mounted on stiff card, four original photographs with impress of the photographer beneath the photographs and address. Arthur Dearman of 46 Church Street Blackpool. images 180 x 230mm 7 x 9 inches, mounts are 310x 230mm. [12 x10 inches] The images reveal the cluttered end of the 19th century look of a guest house. Long dining tables fill the main room with bentwood and other dining chairs in brown furniture style and there are images of the key living rooms including a large sitting room packed with pictures, rugs and cushions etc. Deardon evidently had a photography business also taking cabinet photographs and portraits.

An early collaborative venture between Gavin Stamp and Colin Amery which identified over one hundred of London's most significant Victorian buildings from St Pancreas Station and Hotel to the Infant Orphan's Asylum in Wanstead. This book provides an explanation in part for the huge collection of London related commentaries of the period that were illustrated with photographic plates and which Gavin Stamp had in his collection.
