Unpaginated. 12pp illustrated with b/w plates. This catalogue reviews the work of the first eight Gregory Fellows appointed at Leeds University. They were Reg Butler, Martin Froy, Kenneth Armitage, Terry Frost, Hubert Dalwood, Alan Davie Trevor Bell and Austin Wright. The Gregory Fellows was the brainchild of Mr Eric Craven Gregory who established the fellowships in 1949 to promote contemporary art and sculpture. He was a Yorkshire business man and chair of the art publishing company, Percy Lund, Humphries & Co., Hard to find catalogue. Note in red ink on upper wrapper providing a name and address in neat hand.

Cover design shows Le Corbusier and Mies van de Rohe in conversation. In 1965 a special issue of AD was produced on the influences post 1910 on the modern movement and the Smithsons assembled documents to reflect the architectural dynamism of the period. This is effectively a reprint of the issue of the Journal.

Spine repaired to make an excellent copy of this scarce title. Small tear in frontis, which is a lithograph of the church and some foxing and edge wear to remaining lithographic plates. Images unaffected. Key study drawing on contemporary sources for information about the design of the church before destroyed. From the library of George Gaze Pace.

Although this book covers the design of gardens it is a scholarly analysis of the ways in which space was experienced in the Middle Ages and the renaissance and its potential as an environment in which thought about culture, religion and social interaction and politics could be expanded.

Also investigates the landscape and assesses the relative role of Vanbrugh and professional designers such as Bridgeman. Readable and scholarly study.

144pp illustrated with b/w plates grouped together after the text pages. Small 8vo. Good. Dust wrapper chipped and worn but protected in glassine. End papers slightly foxed. Fascinating publication on design remedies which can be achieved by using a consultant. A greater part of Mercer's life was spent working for The Studio and he was editor of Modern Publicity, Modern Posters and Art and Industry. He was on the board of the RSA for many years and this book was produced from a paper he wrote for the RSA and for which he was awarded a silver medal.

Blind stamped cloth. 3rd edition. 1856-1857 Originally produced [ in parts ] by Langley Banks, a specialist in staircase carpentry; Banks' own designs account for the first 27 of these plates and are signed; the remainder of the plates are by five other specialists (Mr Clarke, Mr Foster, Mr Galpin, Mr Weston). Vol1 Frontis showing Crystal Palace Staircase, title page,[4] 12pp + 24 plates with facing explanatory texts. Vo. 2 plates 25-53 with facing texts + [4]pp note at end on Mr Weston's handrailing system + 3 fold out plates of newel posts and hand railing examples, these last plates badly foxed. Hard to find set.

190pp + [2] illustrated with b/w plates. Decorated cloth. Superb insights into contemporary house keeping, arrangement of rooms etc. Includes contemporary issues such as electric lighting, the arrangement of entrance halls and indeed all the rooms of the house. Peel wrote a series of books aimed at improving the lot of women in the home over her career and was given the OBE for her work in the first world war relating to women and the war and food preparation etc. She deserves to be better known for her contributions in writing and on government committees relating to home economics.

Facsimile reprint of Hussey's classic work originally published by Country Life in the 1950s. Still an essential source of Lutyens' life and work.

Chapters on food, drink, and cooking, but also washing, how to mind the baby and account keeping and health. Henrietta Barnett was a notable social reformer and active in founding Hampstead Garden Suburb.
