Undated. C1905
W 25cm x H 16cm. Modern mount. Illustrates Station Avenue, a terrace built 1902-1905 by architects Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin, for Joseph Rowntree Village Trust. This part of the village is one of the earliest areas of this model settlement. The illustration shows the houses with first floor whitewashed except to gable ends, French tile roof. 2 storeys, 9 first-floor windows with narrow gable breaking forward slightly to left and wide gable projecting well forward to right. It also depicts the garden setting of the houses. . Lovely image, probably painted soon after completion of the project given the scale of the trees in the foreground. The terrace had its chimneys removed in a 190s renovation however survives much in its original state. Jessie Dudley was a well-known water colourist, sister of Tom Dudley. She created many images of the York area as well as the Lake District.
