Decorative Lighting New Designs new ideas. The new edition
London, Knightsbridge Troughton and Young the Lighting Centre 1935
52pp illustrated with b/w photographic images of light fittings, buildings and room settings utilising them. Green wrap around bund over photographic wrappers. 240mm x300mm. A little dusty else internally very good. This catalogue was published in November 1935. Superb illustrations of individual lights and for buildings, in the case of buildings and interiors, the architect or designer with whom the firm collaborated, is noted. Prices noted for individual light fittings where these are illustrated individually. The light fittings reflect the influence of the Bauhaus and although designers are not attributed to individual pieces in the catalogue, it most certainly includes pieces after A B Read, lighting designer. The mid 1930s was a key moment in the expansion of the business. A B Read took up the directorship of Troughton & Young (Lighting) in London, 1925, where Ernest Race worked under him for a year. In 1935 [ & 1946 ] Read's work was used at the British Art in Industry exhibition and Britain Can Make It exhibition, respectively. Although not attributed, the photographs in this fabulous catalogue look like they are by Dell and Wainwright, architetural photographers working for Architectural Review as well as for private clients.
