Map of the Overstone Hall Estate in the Parishes of Overstone and Sywell in the County of Northampton

London Reid & Son. c1832

Engraved map with hand-colouring 420 x530mm No date. Includes a vignette of the 18th century house and another of the primary entrance route from the Moulton gate. Overstone Hall was acquired by the banker Lewis Loyd on February 9, 1832 for £117,500 Loyd who had made his fortune as a partner in Jones, Loyd & Co. (later merged into what is today NatWest) purchased Overstone as his country estate. This plan dates possibly from the sale particulars when it was acquired in 1832. It shows the park layout. The house as shown in this image was later incorporated into an eclectically styled Victorian pile designed by S S Tuelon's brother, W M Teulon who is better known for his landscape work including at near by Althorp. Teulon's house was lost in a fire in 2001 and is now a shell. Reputedly it was hated by the client, Lord Overstone, when built. The park is a golf course and the gardens close to the house have been largely developed for housing. Early documentation of the house prior to William Millard Teulon's alterations is rare. Paper a little dusty and has been folded.
