The firm were master planners for this project. Luckman Associates also advocated the use of a modular design system for the buildings with materials that could be manufactured off-site, which aided in meeting the tight schedule for completion. The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center (JSC) officially opened in June 1964 as the Manned Spacecraft Center (MSC). This approximately 1,620-acre facility is located about 25 miles from downtown Houston, Texas.
