James Paine Studies in Architecture Volume XXV
London A Zwemmer Ltd. 1988
240pp with: b/w full page frontis (portrait of Paine by Joshua Renyolds), 192 numbered b/w prints (photos, plans, elevations), and 46pp detailed catalogue of works. Large 4to, cloth boards in decorated wraps. Very good indeed. One of the most individual and inventive exponents of the English Palladian style, James Paine (1717-1789) was a leading pioneer of the Palladian villa as a country-house form and an early designer of Rococo interior decoration. This is the first monograph to be published on Paine and covers all aspects of his life and work. Hard to find.
