Steel engraved plates in the text supporting details on methods of cultivation. 8vo. Original blind stamped cloth on upper and lower boards, gilt lettering and decoration on spine. All edges gilt. The colour title page is dated 1847 suggesting it was an addition, although the printed title page is given as 1839. A lovely book with useful contemporary material on individual fruits and their cultivation. At the time of writing , McIntosh was Head Gardener to His Grace the Duke of Buccleuch, at Dalkeith where he updated and modernised the gardens.
