J C Loudon's immense and invaluable work was first published in 1833 with the aim of helping to 'improve the dwellings of the great mass of society'. This 1846 edition is significantly expanded, with a large amount of additional information and examples: essentially a combination of the first edition and its supplement, with a new glossary by Mrs Loudon.
