Josiah Stamp Public Servant: The Life of the First Baron Stamp of Shortlands
London Sir Isaac Pitman Ltd. 1964
b/w photo frontis, 365 pages. 8vo. Blue gilt lettered cloth. Original glassine wrapper still present but torn across lower board. From the library of Gavin Stamp with his bookplate. Loosely inserted collection of material relating to Josiah Stamp and subsequent Baron Stamps of Shortlands. Includes press clippings of obituaries etc. Charles Josiah Stamp 1880-1941 was Gavin Stamp's great uncle who amongst other projects was Chairman of the London Midland Railway. He was an industrialist, economist, civil servant, statistician, writer, and banker as well. Another relative was Dudley Stamp the Geographer and Vice Chairman for the Scott Report on Land Utilisation. One can speculate that these two might well have had some influence in Gavin Stamp's range of interests. Loosely inserted DNB entry for Josiah Stamp. Possibly drafted by Gavin?
