Title page, 2-24 pages, introduction and description of plates, illustrated with 200 plates numbered 1-186 and 1-14 complete. Quarto. New front and rear end papers and rear paste down. Rebound, half calf with gilt lettering. and blank raised bands. Harris, collation as no 450. Very bright plates throughout. Ownership signature of Joseph Kedley, Westmoreland Street Newcastle on front paste down which has been preserved. Key source book for details of joinery, carpentry and all kinds of construction detail. Introduction includes material form Palladio on the classical aspects of architectural design. Langleys' books have been criticised for being unoriginal (Harris) but they were undoubtedly popular with builders, artisans and craftsmen throughout the years of publication. The book was first published in 1740 with plates dated 1738 and 1739. The plates of roofs were added in 1745.
