Study of types of grates, ventilation etc. by a manufacturer of "smokeless" fire grates. The first part of the book discusses causes of smoky chimneys an the remainder the solution. Useful introduction documenting a short list of other treatise of the subject published since the late 18th century. Frederick Edwards was highly regarded for his cures for this particular problem and advertised himself as "Stovemaker to her Majesty" at about the time of writing this book. He worked extensively with other stove makers including Edward Arnott for whom he manufactured the "smoke consuming fire grate."
