Telford was initially known as Dawley New Town (designated in early 1963) and a plan was made for this in the early 1960s by A D Shepherd and others. The plan here pulls together a strategy for the establishment of Telford taking in the surrounding settlements of Wellington, Oakengates, Madeley and Dawley. A shopping centre and town park were organised at the heart of it. A comprehensive document outlining the proposals at the time.
