YORK CERAMICS FAIR 9-10th March 2024 – 69 exhibitors

We will be showing our stock of rare and out of print books alongside new titles on Contemporary Ceramics at the wonderful York Ceramics Fair, held at the Knavesmire Suite, York Racecourse,  YO23 1EXYork. This is a fabulous event where makers from throughout Britain meet and sell their works. There are also great pottery demonstrations and an opportunity to try out a bit of working with clay as well as visiting our book stall for all kinds of titles from “how to do it” to how the experts have crafted their pots. JANUARY AT THE SHOP

Our shop has returned to its regular opening days Wednesday to Friday between 10.00am and 5.00pm after our longer Christmas seasonal hours. Please come along  and drop in. Outside these hours we are still open by appointment. The shop is bursting with lots of new items bought just before Christmas. Our winter period is always a busy one and we will be in California at the book fair in early February and will also be issuing some regular stock lists of books we have for sale. We also plan to continue our ventures in selling contemporary ceramics along side the books. These are curated by Lotte Inch.

Christmas Books, Advent Calendars and Winter themed cards

We are setting up our shop for the Christmas season. There are a selection of books for Christmas gifts, Advent Calendars by Angela Harding, Emily Sutton and Alice Melvin and Calendars for 2024 including Martin Dust’s Brutal Calendar featuring iconic concrete  buildings for devotee’s of the modernist in architecture. We are also open every Saturday between 10.30am and 5.00pm up until Christmas. Please call by rather than walk by.

YORK UNLOCKED AT THE BOOKSHOP 7-8 October 2023

Our shop will be open on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October as part of the York Unlocked programme where buildings of heritage merit and interest are opened to the public. Come and explore our shop and find out a bit more about the history of the building. We are open between 10-00 and 16.-00 both on Saturday and Sunday.

NORTHERN PROSPECTS EXHIBITION 30th June – 19th August 2023

Lotte Inch Gallery is returning this summer with an exciting pop-up exhibition at Janette Ray Rare Books. Showcasing a selected body of paintings, prints, ceramics and more, this collection of works has York and the North at its heart. Featuring local and prevalent artists (such as Mark Hearld and Tom Wood) alongside regional greats from recent decades (Marie Walker Last, David Lloyd Jones), this exhibition celebrates the wide array of creative talent hailing from the North.

Artists in the show include; Amy Dennis, Mark Hearld, Nicky Hirst, Kelly Jayne, David Lloyd-Jones, Marie Walker-Last, Robert H. Lee, Isabella Maclure, Geoff Morten, Malcolm Whittaker, Tom Wood and more…

 

 

FIRSTS LONDON 18-21May 2023 Stand 49

It is hard to believe it is that time of the year again. Firsts, the Antiquarian Booksellers Association  book fair ,for 2023, opens at the Saatchi Gallery, just off the Kings, Road, Chelsea. We are getting our stock list together for this event which will go live on this site in the Catalogues section on the day the fair opens.

It is a wonderful place to see some of the fabulous books produced in the past.  In our subject area, we will have a range of modern rarities as well as a few from the past which were at the cutting edge of design in their own time. Come along. Prepare to be amazed.

SPRING IS COMING AT THE BOOKSHOP

A new range of Easter Cards arrived this week and will be on sale for those planning their Easter festivities. Please come and take a look. The shop is overflowing with recent purchases too ranging across all our visual art subjects from architecture to art. We exhibited at the York Ceramics Fair recently and still have some great titles we acquired for that very special event. We have a range of books on how to make ceramics as well as titles on the major figures in Ceramic design including Lucie Rie, Bernard Leach and their contemporaries. If you want to visit us outside our usual hours, please give us a call and we will make our best efforts to open up for you.

California – we are packed and ready to go

The California Book Fair starts on February 10th and we will be there. Just finished packing up our books to take and they will be winging their way there in the next week. Whilst the fair will be on our shop will be open as usual for those who cannot get to Pasadena and sample the books and the Spring weather. We will be at Booth 507 https://www.abaa.org/cabookfair
