SUMMER PROJECTS - HANDLIST 73

Our hand list 73 will be out within the next few weeks. The list concentrates on construction and conservation. Building materials and their correct use is key in conservation and we thought we would put these subjects together in a list. This has been prompted by a recent purchase of interesting books on building construction from the collection of an architect who practiced in Wakefield and Scarborough in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Towards the end of the summer a further list should appear on domestic building and design. Ideally I would like to feature the contribution of women architects and designers in this field and have tried to collect books together written by women or featuring their work. This has proved very difficult however. I read in the newspapers that there is a Vorticist Exhibition at Tate Britain at the moment where the curator has tried to redress the balance of works between women and men in this art movement through employing some positive discrimination. Any suggestions on how to do this in the field of domestic design would be welcomed:Names, places anything?
