TWO PENFOLD PRESS PRINT MAKERS MARK HEARLD & ED KLUZ
The two local artists, Ed Kluz and Mark Hearld, who are exhibiting a selection of their prints here at Janette Ray’s bookshop between 28th August and 14th September have accelerating national reputations. The show is a particularly fitting one for the shop as it compliments the specialist art, design and architecture stock.
Ed Kluz, from Richmond, has made a set of four prints of Tudor Houses in a limited edition series and these are for sale alongside some of his paintings. Ed’s work is rooted in our heritage. He seeks out the eccentric, the lost and the overlooked – vanished buildings; follies; centuries-old-text; ancient imagery - and uses them as starting points for his vibrant paintings, which explore themes of renewal, reinvention and the passing of time. ‘I am fascinated by the past. Our architectural heritage is a huge source of inspiration for me.’
Mark Hearld, from York, is exhibiting a selection of his prints inspired by the natural world. His latest print for the Curwen Press 50th Anniversary Exhibition is included in the show. Mark works across a variety of media; including lino cut prints, paintings and ceramics.
Alongside producing work for this show, Mark has also designed all publicity for the York National Book Fair which is to be held on 12th and 13th September 2008 at the York Racecourse. This work includes a limited edition print celebrating books and book collecting. (Please enquire if you are interested in one of the Book Fair prints. These will be available in an edition of 75 from the Book Fair and thereafter from us.)
The Penfold Press is run by Daniel Bugg who provides a unique facility for artists wishing to produce fine quality hand made prints. The papers for sale alongside the pictures in the exhibition are made by Dan.
